Testimonials

"In my opinion, the Tokon Academy is the best place to train BJJ in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. David Webb is a technical and patient instructor who cares about the progress of his students. His jiu-jitsu is technical and effective, and he has good judo as well. As a fellow instructor, I would not hesitate to send my own students to learn from him. Highly recommended."

"A massive thank you to David from the Tokon Academy for the excellent sessions he has provided for both staff and students from North Herts Education Support Centre. David's incredibly calm and professional approach enabled him to engage with our students immediately - which is by no means an easy feat! Students and staff alike have been raving about the sessions and hope to attend many more in the future!"

David has worked with us for 7 years, delivering his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Schools programme to a very high standard. He instils a sense of focus and self-discipline in the children through his high expectations which are, nonetheless, adapted to suit the needs of the children. David establishes a good rapport with the children and his expertise and enthusiasm for his sport clearly shines through. His coaching style is effective, typified by his pupils' recent success at the 2012 English Open Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu sessions have been running at Ramsey Manor for a number of years now with great success. The children are engaged and motivated in the weekly sessions, and David consistently creates a fantastic learning experience for all involved. It is also wonderful to note the enjoyment and positive attitudes in the children who attend the sessions. Consequently, the Jiu Jitsu sessions are an integral part of Ramsey, and something that we are very proud to be a part of.

"I went to my first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class exactly one year ago. These guys were stronger, fitter and more flexible, and they knew how to apply their fitness efficiently and intelligently. It is no exaggeration to say that BJJ is life changing. The best part is that it doesn’t hurt, it is very safe and it is great fun. In fact I wholly intend to be on the mats when I’m in my 60s and beyond. I would say to anyone thinking about trying it – put aside your preconceptions. You cannot and will not understand BJJ until you have tried it."

Liam Sartorius, Fitness & Weight-Loss Coach

"My 13-year old son has minor learning problems, traits of dyslexia and is also slightly visually impaired, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is extremely hands on and something he CAN do and loves! He has become more confident, determined to succeed and much healthier because of it."

"I love BJJ. I turned to BJJ following many rugby injuries and now find myself hooked. It challenges every aspect of fitness, strength, endurance, agility and flexibility, something I had neglected until now. I find it also challenges the mind, thinking about your next move whilst also thinking about your opponents. It's a must try sport taught by a very competent coach."

Rob Kraina, Owner of Hitchin Sports Massage

"Dave has a wealth of experience in a number of martial arts. I currently attend his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes which are friendly and relaxed. The lessons are always very well structured and enjoyable. My fitness has improved significantly since I started BJJ. I would certainly recommend attending BJJ for both fitness and self-defence and with the free trial he offers you have nothing to lose."

"My six-year old daughter and nephew started training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu having become a bit bored with Taekwondo. They love it! Rolling around on the matted floor is just naturally fun for children. The concepts are broken down into simple steps and lessons are well planned and prepared. The instructor obviously enjoys working with children which really shows as my daughter can't wait to show her mum what she\'s learned when she gets home.”

"I have been learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the Tokon Academy for a while and all I can say is David Webb is one of the best coaches I have ever worked with. The lessons are prepared and structured in advance and during the progression of a technique plenty of variations/defences/progressions are dealt with. David is very receptive to questions from beginners during training and has never hesitated to slow a technique down to deal with individual points. It is also a very modern academy as he keeps in contact with members via the group’s facebook, twitter pages and SMS newsletters. In short, I would wholeheartedly recommend David and the Tokon Academy for anyone considering BJJ."

Andy Jeffries, 5th Dan Master in Olympic Taekwondo

"I have been training with the Tokon Academy for nearly a year now and still thoroughly enjoy it. Dave is an excellent instructor as is able to convey what could seem complex techniques in a very clear and concise fashion. His professional and approachable demeanour really creates the perfect environment for learning and raise any queries you may have. The lessons are well structured with a relaxed atmosphere. Each session begins with some light sparring to warm up the muscles, followed by a solid hour or so of technical tuition focussing on a specific technique. The session usually finishes with several rounds of sparring with the aim of putting into practice the skills learned. The training partners are of varying skill level with the more experienced happy to offer tips to the newer students. I always feel as though I have progressed in some way after every session and the sparring offers a really intense full body work out. With the more recent addition of no-Gi grappling and Judo sessions you are really able to focus on certain aspects of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and work on the weaker parts of your game. The additional option of having 1-1 sessions is excellent and allows a tailor made lesson. All in all the sessions are the highlight of my week and I can’t wait to get back on the mats."

Mark Walpole, Zoo keeper & Jiu Jitsu Blue Belt

"All I can say about the Tokon Academy is fantastic! David Webb is a great instructor who is highly skilled in several different martial arts. It is a pleasure to train with him. As a county level Judoka I went to David to improve my Ne-Waza skills and got drawn straight away by his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and own Judo Ne-Waza. The Tokon Academy also provides a number of seminars with very special guest instructors. I attended the seminar with Olympian Ray Stevens and it was worth every penny!"

David Chastell, 1st Dan Judo, 1st Dan Ju Jitsu & SDF Self-defence Instructor

"I have been training (intermittently) with Tokon Academy for a short while, but I have found the instruction to be first class. Having practised and coached a variety of martial arts for over 28 years I have seen a huge variety of skill levels demonstrated by "qualified instructors". David's friendly manner makes it very easy ask him questions and gain a good understanding of the techniques. I would recommend the Tokon Academy to anyone looking to learn BJJ "
