Head Coach: David Webb
Like most other kids of his generation David’s first experience of the martial arts was a traditional one and began 20 years ago with Shotokan Karate in the early 1990’s. In just under 3 years he gained his black belt under Sensei Kienosuke Enoeda, 9th Dan and in 1996 was graded to 2nd degree black belt under Sensei Andy Sherry, 8th Dan. However, whilst teaching Karate at his dojo and by a chance meeting was introduced to a man named Miguel Camacho, who in turn invited David to try some ‘proper training’ at the gym of the London Shootfighters in Kilburn, London.
“Monday 20th November 2000 was the worst day of my life” he recalls “I spent the entire 2 hours literally trying not to be sick on the mats from the warm up alone, trying to avoid gazes from the likes of Alexis, Marios, Paul Ivens, Michael Johnson, Jon Thorpe, Robert Sulski, Kamal Locke, Alex Reid, Lee Murray and James Zikic and praying that the ‘light’ sparring at the end of the session would stop!” Mixed martial arts had not been in the UK long at this point, it was a great time to be training. David’s thirst for more knowledge was quenched by sessions at the London Shootfighters gym, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Ronaldo Campos at London’s Tokei, Muay Thai with the Minotaurs under Dave Scarborough and Ralph, Judo with Graeme Welsh and the occasional seminar with Judoka Neil Adams MBE and Submission Wrestling with Erik Paulson. After a short while David’s first MMA bout was scheduled for Saturday 13th October 2001 as an exhibition bout on a kickboxing show and after 70 seconds he had won his first MMA fight, which eventually led to a British title fight against Paul Jenkins and a European Superfight against Javier Garcia from Spain but was abruptly ended due to injury.
In 2008, now with an academy of his own, David stumbled across a website that was to dramatically change his training methods and outlook on everything from training, conditioning and life itself – the Jiu Jitsu Brotherhood – and after an initial seminar with the JJB Head Coach Nicolas Gregoriades a new direction and energy was created.
David has also had the great opportunity to train under some of the world’s best fighters and coaches from all over the world from the disciplines of Karate, Judo, Submission Wrestling, Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, some of which include: Roger Gracie, Ray Stevens, Lucio ‘Lagarto’ Rodrigues, Nick Brooks, Jeff Monson, Michael Bisping, Braulio Estima, Otavio Souza, Felipe Souza, Murilo and Mauricio Rua, Vitor ‘Shaolin’ Ribeiro, Royce Gracie, Fernando ‘Terere’ Augosto, as well as many others.
Currently the instructor of the Jiu Jitsu Brotherhood academies in Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire, David is 100% dedicated to developing himself and his training partners in the truest sense of the word. David holds a Bachelors degree in Sports Science and is currently working full-time as a head coach for the Tokon Academy. A Dan grade in Judo, purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a Dan grade in Shotokan Karate he is also owner and editor of the online digital magazine KombatClinic.com
