What is ‘Submission Wrestling’?
The term ‘Submission Wrestling/Grappling’ is a name coined back in the late 1990′s through the emergence of a competition involving grappling champions in Abu Dhabi that combined elements of all grappling arts. A general term describing an aspect of combat sports that focuses on clinch and ground fighting with the aim of obtaining a submission using various holds, it is sometimes also considered a separate sport; with many grappling arts integrated into single system, and can include techniques from a wide range of arts. Submission wrestling has a common association with Catch wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Shootfighting and others.
What does training Submission Wrestling involve?
Training within Submission Wrestling encompasses a whole plethora of takedowns (derived from all grappling arts), ground positions (pins & hold-downs) and joint locks (submissions); training is normally conducted in t-shirt and shorts.
Various championships are held the world over that act as qualifiers for the pinnacle of world Submission Wrestling, the bi-annual Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) Submission Wrestling Championships.
Submission Wrestling is for everyone and can be practised by men, women and children.
