The details for the 2012 summer promotions have been set and are as follows:

Date: Saturday 9th June 2012
Venue: North Herts Combat Centre, 72c Wilbury Way, Hitchin, Hertfordshire. SG4 0TP
Time: 3pm-6pm
Cost: £30.00 (adults) & £15.00 (children)

The session shall be taken by the head coach of the Jiu Jitsu Brotherhood – Nicolas Gregoriades, who is one of the most sort after Jiu Jitsu coaches in Europe and was the first to be awarded a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under the legendary Roger Gracie in 2008.

The seminar/grading is open to all members of the Tokon Academy but anyone looking for clarification about the class’s suitability (especially junior members) should contact me as soon as possible.

A good day had by all at today’s ‘Spring Gathering’, great to see some old friends and of course the new ones as well.

Numbers were a very low in the kids session where, out of a possible 115 juniors, only 21 attended so a little disappointed to be honest, nevertheless, those that did attend were more than happy with their stripes and I am very happy with how you are all progressing – keep it up please!

The kid’s class was to be a mixture of simple drills to practice the positions learned over the last few weeks:

  • Mount escape (Upa) >>> hip bump sweep
  • Guard pass >>> mount >>> mount escape (Upa)

The all important relay races preceded some positional sparring before some well earned stripes were awarded.

In the adult class we had the pleasure to have some Jiu Jitsoka from Andy Nugent’s academy and indeed Andy taught some effective leg attacks including: a couple of different knee bars and a toe hold.

Just like to say a very quick thank you to everyone that supported today’s gathering, especially those who couldn’t hang around for whatever reason but still made the effort to travel and support the academy. This is something that will become an annual occurrence and now we know people are going to support the event, next year’s gathering will be much more of a family day with food and some light entertainment for the younger ones.
